A story in today's local paper details a new independent literary bookstore that has just opened in the resurgent Glenwood neighborhood of our fair city.

Pretty good reading. I'll have to pay a visit sometime.

That will change Saturday, with the opening of the city’s first
independent bookstore in six years, Glenwood Community Book Shop.

Mileage options: 20, 40 or 60 miles. 60 milers leave at 9am (wow that sounds wonderful after a whole summer of getting up at 5.30am for training rides!), 20 & 40 milers leave at 10am. This is a cycling event but the GVC folks usually let us join in on skates! Not sure how late the course is open, but there are rest stops and a SAG, as well as 'food and drink' at the finish.

OK. Now I can say it. The jerseys have just arrived and they look pretty good methinks, but I have not had time to check them thoroughly. The color is a color you have seen before somewhere in nature. Some are going to love it, and some will hate it. Now it's just a matter of getting them to the people that love it. If you don't love it, don't open it and we'll sell it to someone else. But I hope you love it!

A week or two ago I happened to find a couple of blogs that are being kept by local bike guy Ian Joyce: Veloblog and Manage to Experience. The first is mostly about cycling and the second is more about his professional work in the area of marketing and the Internet.

I'm a couple of weeks slow in getting this up, but there's a video clip online of Olympic ice speedskating champion and Greensboro native Joey Cheek talking to Stephen Colbert about human rights abuses in Darfur and why his visa to attend this summer's Beijing Olympics was suddenly revoked. I thought that he came across very well.

The Paceline Bicycles Greensboro Bike Ride and Inline Skate was a fun, if relatively short (around 28 miles or so...I turned my Garmin Forerunner 305 on a bit late), training ride for the Tour to Tanglewood.

Today's skate and ride was moderately hot and covered some familiar territory, if in a different way.

I made the usual speed map, but also an altitude map and a heart rate map, the latter for your fun and amusement. I hit 179 at one point, but wasn't interested in staying there.

I neglected to start my Garmin Forerunner 305 so the start is not included, but we started where we finished, as you might expect.
